Tia Chucha’s Young Warriors

Sylmar, California, US

Young Warriors is a community project created by youth for the youth of the Northeast San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles and based in Tia Chucha’s Centro Cultural and Bookstore.

Tia Chucha’s itself was first founded in Sylmar CA as an LLC in the summer of 2001 by Chicano author Luis J. Rodriguez, his wife Maria Trinidad Rodriguez, their brother-in-law Enrique Sanchez, and artist Otto “Tito” Sturcke and Maria Flores. Tia Chucha’s doors opened in December of that year with a full coffee bar, bookstore, art gallery, performance space, and arts workshop center.

The youth empowerment project has been developed to provides arts awareness, performing arts, cultural awareness, mentoring and social consciousness to pre-teens, teenagers, and young adults (ages 10–25 years old). In addition we also aim to provide referrals for  youth to meaningful jobs, training,  educational options, and technical assistance.

We believe youth programming should be led by youth because youth are the ones who really know  what are the issues affecting us.

We are here to prove to youth that they are not alone and have someone there to support and give them love in their time of need, no matter the day and time.

Young Warriors Meetings are held on the 3rd Sunday of the Month 10am to 12pm.
