The Cross Cultural Protocols (CCP) Working Group of Youth Passageways invites Rite of Passage practitioners and youth-affiliated groups and individuals to join us on Monday January 23rd, from 4-5:30 Pacific [6-7:30 Central], for a six-week empowering learning journey! The first session is an introductory discussion on Social Justice Dimensions in Rites of Passage. Learn more about the story and importance of this working group in relation to the vision of Youth Passageways organization. Hear our reflections on the Youth Passageways Gathering in the Los Angeles area last April and the issues we have been tracking present in the movement that are helping us discern important narratives.
From there each of the five following weeks will delve into and deepen the explorations made at the LA Gathering including:
How ancestral identity strengthens the work of Rites of Passage and exploring ways to integrate this into the field.
How Rites of Passage work can serve to help initiate youth while supporting the collective rite of passage our world is going through socially, politically, economically and spiritually. i.e how our work relates to current struggles of social and cultural change.
How to approach Rites of Passage work with consent of the indigenous peoples of the lands we’re on.
How to approach this work where you are doing it with an understanding of its sensitive nature in spaces that don’t hold this focus.
The brokenness between peoples is part of how initiatory processes for youth were lost, and reconciliation and healing are central to their reclamation. The Cross Cultural Protocols Working Group helps Youth Passageways stay in alignment with its commitment to diversity, and articulate and embody practices that support healthy, fruitful and dynamic relationships and representation of all that comprise our network.
