“It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.”– E.E. Cummings
In the wild mountains of Colorado, come together with a group of other queer young people who identify as LGBTQI+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex + any other way you identify) to step fully into who you are in a community of queer people who will listen and see you for the unique gifts you bring to this world. You will be supported and surrounded by elders in the queer community who will prepare you physically and emotionally to find your place in the mountains to go alone for 3 days and nights with no food or company. The natural world will mirror who you are and what it means to be queer and grow into adulthood.
As a young queer person you have most likely experienced your fair share of difficulties and it is powerful that you have survived and are alive! There is much to celebrate! Whether you have struggled with abuse, suicide, depression, anxiety, alienation from friends or family, or have received love and unconditional support- it is time to celebrate!
You will be asked to show up in this group with honesty, rawness, and depth; holding light and darkness. These are some of the gifts of being queer, whether you are an edge walker, conformer or non conformer. This is your chance to explore who you really are and be real. This is a new and powerful way of coming out in the world, to your family, and your community!
This rite of passage, both ancient and contemporary, offers an opportunity to take a long look at what needs to be left behind in your life, what is alive now, and what is to come. The wisdom of the natural world can influence all of the choices coming, whether it’s relationships, leaving home, transitioning, starting college, or a job. So we invite you into the wild, expansive Rocky Mountains to join with the land and a community of peers and guides for this initiatory ceremony.
The journey is eleven days long, including preparation time, a three-day solo, and three days of sharing and reflecting the stories and gifts that all of you will bring back from your time on the land. It is a valid confirmation of your step towards adulthood, and a queer community-witnessed ceremony designed just for you. It is a gift we offer to ourselves, our families, our extended community and our world.
Scholarships exist for those who need them. Money should not be an obstacle in the way of your call towards this step!
